Climate & culture is the energy swirling through an educational space that everyone consciously and subconsciously feels. Our moods and actions are affected by the culture that ultimately builds or erodes relationships. Good energy creates a transcendent experience for every student and employee. They feel welcome and recognize their significant role in the overall mission. Administrative integrity is airtight, where decision-making has the greater good in mind. School culture is the foundation!
Culture is incrementally constructed. No magic wand is waved to form this binding energy. Positive moments are accumulated over time to create it. Stakeholders must treat it like a flourishing bank account, where significant deposits are made daily. These deposits look like genuine greetings at the door, relationship building, practicing presence, established traditions, quality decision-making, celebrating wins, love, etc.
Administrators must persistently and purposely build the culture of the school. It takes great effort to establish and takes little effort to spoil. Creating good relationships with teachers and students is at the core of culture building. Teachers project the energy that administrators bring. Students project the energy that teachers bring. Teachers must be given the physical and emotional tools to perform their duties. Continual feedback helps them to evaluate themselves and make positive adjustments to their craft. Students are rewarded by these adjustments and can now receive excellence. This excellence is put into the world through their future actions.
